A Beautiful Escape

The combination of sunless days and cold temperatures has made it hard to get motivated to go outside and take photographs. This weekend the weather wasn’t to cold and the snow was coming down on Saturday at just the right pace.

I made the short walk down to Forest Lawn Cemetery and was immediately over taken by a sense of calm and peace. I found myself being drawn to certain gravestones as many of them could be called works of art. You rarely see much detail go into gravestones these days. One of the most elaborate monuments I saw was a marble carving of a mother and father standing over their son laying on his deathbed. The entire scene was encased in glass and very was impressive.

If you have not had the chance to walk around the cemetery I highly recommend it. Once you get within its confines the “living” world tends to be muted even though it’s surrounded by all sorts of roadways. The snow gave the cemetery a very beautiful white coating and the wind had carved out some gravestones while leaving other completely buried. I’m looking forward to visiting the cemetery again the spring and summer to see how this beautiful piece of land changes with the seasons.

Until then please check out some of my photos by clicking here.
