Babik on Bidwell
Last night saw the third live concert in Bidwell Park, a free weekly event courtesy the folks at the Elmwood Village Association. Last night was Buffalo’s own Babik, a gypsy jazz outfit that’s taken much of Buffalo’s live music scene by storm with its many area appearances and their wonderful debut CD. These guys are not just talented, they’re dedicated to all things jazz and Buffalo. Wonderful show last night, gentlemen! Keep up the great work! (They’re super nice, too.)
The Elmwood Village Summer Concert Series in Bidwell Park is a great event with lots of people and great food, fun music and more than a few surprises. I took some photos of people, their refreshments, their kids and some of their furry friends, too. You should plan on stopping by a future concert. They’re held every Tuesday through August 12. Take a peek at these upcoming dates and find yourself (and us!) at a few of them. Remember, it’s free, it’s outdoors and it’s no more than 15 or 20 minutes from your house (give or take a few minutes)....what are you waiting for?
Tuesday, July 22 Outer Circle Orchestra
Tuesday, July 29 Latin Jazz Project
Tuesday, August 5 Lo Blu Flame
Tuesday, August 12 Steam Donkeys

At last night’s concert, Babik frontman Josh Assad told the crowd to be on the lookout for the band’s upcoming new album, available in August. I can’t wait for more gypsy jazz!

I wonder who this car belongs to....

We saw some awesome dogs around town at the concert. Free live music does not discriminate against species or haircut, apparently.

Gilda’s Club of WNY had an information table at the event last night, raising awareness for their organization which helps families afflicted by cancer. They even had a member of their staff dressed as Gilda, with her outrageous hair and signature red dress. (I certainly HOPE that was a costume, at the very least. If not, you looked just wonderful!) It’s always something....

James and his Ice Creamcycle were on the hunt for hungry customers, and he found some in us.

This fella found himself a popcicle, that’s for sure. Get him a wet nap!
