¡Buffa-ole!

Cuisine is a funny thing.  Only in America can foods of various faraway lands converge on the same fork.  You’ve got your beef-on-’weck sushi at Sea Bar, and you have virtually any kind of pizza at virtually any pizza oven in virtually any part of town...Mexican pizza, Hawaiian pizza, American barbeque pizza, etc.  But you could say I was a bit surprised to come across a new menu item at my favorite, Mighty Taco.

I was driving around town the other night, enjoying a beautiful warm night out with my music playing and the wind going through my arm’s hair, when I came across a sign that read something to this effect:  GET READY BUFFALO!  THE BUFFITO IS HERE!

I was lucky I didn’t drive into a pole as my eyes did a double take.  Was it possible?  Could it be?  Were we, the loyal taco-eating fans of Mighty Taco, to believe that we’d have a.... I couldn’t believe it myself, until I drove a little closer and saw that it’s not a buffet of burrito activity—to the lament of anyone who’s ever wanted to ditch the lettuce and tomato for more (what we’ll refer to as) “beef.” No, it was even more surprising.  It was a Buffalo-themed burrito.  Called.....the..........BUFFITO????  Mmmm....okay?!?

It turns out, they take Buffalo-spiced chicken and bleu cheese dressing and wrap it in a tortilla.  No other cheese, no silly vegetables, no other filler.  Just the meat and the sauce.  What else could someone want?  I ordered one, for research purposes of course.  It’s good, not quite a Mighty Taco-tasting menu item, but then again neither are their chocolate chip cookies.  It’ll do for that Buffalo-centric culinary fix.  It’s not that original, nor it is outstanding, but it’s not bad either.  I was hoping for something Buffalo-beefy with bleu cheese, which as I type I realize doesn’t sound as appetizing as it did it my head.  But we can’t all be picky, now can we?

Either way, it’s something to consider the next time you’re going through Mighty Taco and in the need for something else that’s Buffalo flavored.  I’m still waiting for hot sauce cereal or perhaps Sahlen’s muffins.  It can’t be that far off.  I’m still waiting for the funding for my own idea, Wonton-amera, the world’s first fusion Asian-Mexican joint.  Coming soon to a food court near you.
