Burchfield Penney Art Center opens its doors this weekend

The opening this weekend of the new Burchfield Penney Art Center is poised to celebrate what is Buffalo’s first new museum in a century.  Much has been logged about the museum’s spectacular new building, its local/regional angle, and its explosive opening weekend.

So I won’t belabor the point.

But what I will do is remind you of this weekend’s incredible 31-hour opening celebration, from Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. to Sunday at 5 p.m.  The gallery and its many performance and display spaces will be open the entire time, which means you can literally spend a night at the museum.

I am especially looking forward to the performances of The Dust Bowl, The Electric Eclectic Orchestra, the Buffalo State College Astronomy Club’s Stargazing, The Real Dream Cabaret; panel discussions about watercolor painting, Charles E. Burchfield’s doodling, and workshops in Henna tattooing, Jeff Vincent’s Kreepy Dolls and MUCH, MUCH MORE.

Check out the itinerary on the new building’s welcoming Web site.  If you are not a member of the gallery and would like to become one – especially with the new Landmark Membership, which gives you red carpet-like access to exclusive openings and events – you can download a membership form here.  Membership prices are discounted now as part of the grand opening.
