Catherine Parker Remembers Tomorrow
Shamefully, I must admit that it wasn’t until they began hanging Catherine Parker’s paintings outside of our office in Insite Gallery at The Neighborhood Collective that I became familiar with her work. I don’t pretend to be an art aficionado, though.
We see a lot of art, each and everyday, as we walk back to our office. It’s an exciting space to work in, as new exhibits debut several times per season. In the months since we moved into our office, not a single artist’s works have been as captivating as Catherine Parker’s.
The daughter of famous painter, Charles Burchfield, and a native WNY’er, Catherine has lived in various parts of the country, and has spent a great deal of time traveling around the world. All of this is beautifully reflected in her works. Drawing influence from her late father, as well as Milton Avery, Arthur Dove, Richard Diebenkorn and Mark Rothko, Catherine’s images, often inspired by cities, nature, and the rhythm of seasons, attempt to find a balance between what is seen and what is remembered or imagined.
Catherine Parker’s ‘Remembering Tomorrow’ exhibit opens tomorrow (Friday) evening at Insite Gallery, with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m., and runs through November 25. As a testament to Catherine’s fascination with the connection between various arts, a poetry reading is scheduled at Insite Gallery on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m.
We hope to see you there!
