City Crasher:  Allentown, Nook of Secrets

Allentown. Nook of secrets.  My usual hangout.  Oh, Allentown… bards should write songs about you.  For the past week, I’ve spent every free moment in Allentown.  Specifically, for this post, I’ll focus on Allen Street.

I appreciate the bookstores, the singing passersby-ers, the anarchist circle A symbol for the neighborhood (don’t deny it).  Unfortunately, not all of this week’s wanderings were positive.  I had some pretty poor service at Sample.  Granted, everything else was perfect—atmosphere, food, wine, cleanliness… just the service was bad. Besides that, I was also distracted by the fantastic Antique Man. It’s a music, book and antique store. It has comics and knickknacks.  It has everything I personally enjoy, and I sort of would like to move in. Perhaps I’ll live between the VHS tapes and the art books. Anywho, there was a great band playing over the speakers called Normal Love. it’s experimental and wonderful. Please, check them out.

I went to the Pink as well.  Everyone has an opinion on this place. I adore it. It’s comfortable, and dirty, and cheap, and, as I’ve said previously, the best DJs in town. I also ran into person after person. My own personal Cheers.

There’s Rust Belt Books, and Steel Crazy, where I purchased the aforementioned anarcho-Allentown symbol. The crepes there are amazing, and there’s constantly live music. They also have an adorable Halloween set up, whether that matters to you or not. I went through, with my friend, and thought of all the places on Allen that I adore. The Allentown Crawl, from the Park to the Subway, is a great crawl. You will meet all types of people, and all types of atmospheres. I’ve always planned my night on a few strange criteria. I want a patio—well, we’ve nietsche’s, Brick Bar, Colter Bay, K. Gallaghers, Q, Miss. Kitties, Fugazi’s, Sample, Frizzy’s.... Perhaps I’d like some Buffalo artists and music—Nietszche’s, Staples, Hardware, Antique Man, Rust Belt Books… there is a little something for everyone.

The point stands, if you’re looking for lunch, breakfast, a night of drinking, an art show, a theatre show, or just a park to spend some time in, Allentown has it all. No, really… it has everything.
