City Crasher:  To Infinity and Beyond

I went to Club Infinity. It wasn’t so much a club, as it was a concert venue for the band The Academy Is… Yes, this would be the band that I went to see in New York City. Besides all that, once again, I left work frazzled and thinking of how much I would not enjoy the show, except for the band. It was better than I thought, to be honest. First off, any type of music venue in Williamsville makes me raise my eyebrow. As I approached, there was a sign about line dancing (or country dancing...) and a long line of teenagers and their parents. Again, my excitement was dwindling.

Walking in, I went and bought the cheapest beer in Williamsville (maybe rivalling Abbey Square). I was shocked. So, my friends and I made the best of the night, and frankly, it was a great night. The band was on top of their game (even after an accident involving a trailer).

Let me tell you a bit more about Infinity. The listing of bands over the past years were on the wall. The Exploited played there. I cannot imagine it, but they did, and I’m a bit jealous. The bartender was so very nice, and chatted with us for a while. The people in the crowd, primarily, were polite and nice. One girl even passed out, which was bizarre. Come on, children, take care of yourselves.

So here’s the conclusion of this small venture into a suburban dance club: I’m glad that there is something out there for the teenagers of the area. It’s good to know that a venue (no matter how much it wasn’t geared towards my population) exists. It seemed to have a variety of bands, and a decent bar area. I might check it out later, when there is not a concert, to see what it is like. It seemed strange, mainly due to the crowd. All in All, Williamsville has a good thing with a venue for teenagers.

Being from the suburbs originally, I know what its like to be a bored teenager in “The Ville”. I think we need more places for teenagers to be and exist freely. I think its a great idea to have these venues to support this age group. Infinity does just that.

I may be outside of their age bracket, and frankly, I’d rather sip wine in a gallery on Allen Street, but I can see the benefits of such a place. Perhaps there are events at this location for people in their 20s and 30s, but I just don’t see it. Or haven’t yet.

Editor’s note:  Club Infinity, like many bars throughout Western New York, is open to underage patrons on specific nights (like concerts geared toward teenagers) with guidelines in place for those who are consuming alcohol.  Please contact individual venues if your underage child is planning on attending a concert there.

I remember going to Club Infinity—then called Howdy’s—with some high school friends the first winter break of college.  We didn’t intend to have fun, we were almost going to make fun of the fact that Williamsville had a legit music club.  I wish I could tell you we had a bad time, but we didn’t.  Haven’t been back since, but it was surely something to remember.  I’m happy they’ve stayed in business with so many concert dates for so long.
