Drive Around, Please

So this isn’t exactly new news, but Chef’s this week gained approval to install a drive-thru window at their iconic Seneca Street restaurant.  After reading its justifications in this Buffalo News article, I understand the desire to fix traffic flow and customer congestion problems.  I also think a drive-thru window for a relatively classic Italian restaurant is mind-blowing.  It makes me think of other establishments that could benefit from having the old “drive around, please” sputtered out through a tiny square speaker box.  How about a drive-thru post office, adequate only for letters and small packages, sure, but easier to deal with than standing in line.  Even the friendliest of neighborhood postal workers can’t replace the ease of listening to WJYE while mailing those tax forms.  It’s perfect!  Out west, coffee drinkers get their drinks with a little added spice—courtesy those scantily clad baristas—from parking lot drive-thrus featuring ladies wearing clothes, but not many of them.  Down south, you can get a daiquiri while sitting in your car.  It’s not all that safe or moral, mind you (or legal), but it’s still a bit amusing.  What about drive-thru speed dating?  Deserting your date may be easier than ever with a car.

Until all of this happens here, I’ll be fine with some spaghetti parm and a soundtrack on my speakers.  I’m thinking Sinatra.

I got that photo from this guy.
