I’m Making My List…

The joke in my family is that on June 2 (the day after my birthday) and December xx (the day after we give our Hanukkah presents), I make the bold move of distributing my freshly revised gift wish list for the next time we exchange presents.  Seeing as I have a birthday in a prime spot on the calendar year, right around the mid-year mark, I always knew I’d get gifts on a routine schedule.  I wasn’t a greedy child, but I wasn’t so modest as to request my gift be a tree planting in the Gobe Desert or something obnoxious like that.  I just knew what I had needed—karaoke equipment, drawing tools, adequate bookkeeping software—and wasn’t afraid to ask for it.

So it seems fitting that on this day, this Christmas In July holiday that seems celebrated only by the orange-faced plastic heads on QVC and HSN and those few legit garden gnomes, I submit my wish list for this upcoming impending holiday season.  I won’t know what I will receive just yet, of course.  But that’s the joy of receiving gifts from the people I love, who give not because they must but because I ask them to.  So long as it isn’t a tree in Malaysia.

Ben’s Guide to 2008 Holiday Gifting For Him, So That He Knows You Love Him
1.  Come to my apartment, clean once every two weeks, and leave a mint on my pillow.
2.  Call me at various time in my workweek and ask if I’d like some coffee from across the street.  Know precisely how much coffee condiments I prefer, and execute flawlessly.
3.  Take me to the zoo.  I love a monkey.
4.  Buy my groceries for a few weeks.  Seriously.  (I’ll cook for you, but only if it counts as my holiday gift in return.)
5.  Remind me when my car’s tire pressure is low.  Preferably before I get on the 90, 190, 290, 198 or 33.
