Legally Blonde is, like, SO coming to, like, Buffa, like, lo

It’s the middle of August, which for most of us means that all of those seasonal offerings which come our way in September (your favorite TV shows, your first day of second grade, the first time you can wear a sweater outside without wondering what sort of mistake you made) are approaching.  For me, it’s the theater season which gets my pickle tickled me excited.  The local theater scene kicks its heels off on September 19, the date of this year’s Curtain Up! celebration.  It’s a huge opening night party for Buffalo’s many professional theater companies, with a huge party at Shea’s and lots of special surprises.  (More to come on Curtain Up! as the date approaches.)

You can get the party started (did I just say that?) today, in fact, with a special priority offer for Shea’s headlining Broadway show of the 2008-2009 M&T Bank Broadway Season, “Legally Blonde.” The show is a musical remake of the popular Reese Witherspoon film, and made history last October when it aired in its entirety on MTV (the first time a still-running show was aired on television).  I’ve seen it on TV a dozen times, and as much as I wanted to hate it, I couldn’t.  It’s SUCH a funny, fast, sharp-tongued, YOUNG show.  Anybody who loved the movie will enjoy the show, and tons more will appreciate its youthful sound and sense of humor.

It should be a huge hit here in Buffalo when it touches down October 14-19.  The Buffalo engagement is only the third stop on the show’s first national tour, a good score for Shea’s.  That means we’ll get a fresh cast, many of them straight from the Broadway production (including Orchard Park’s own Adam Zelasko) and also the finalists from MTV’s reality competition show, “The Search for Elle Woods,” which aired this spring and named the new star of the Broadway show.  Here’s winner Bailey Hanks in action, performing the first act closer, “So Much Better”:

Anyway, you can get your tickets for “Legally Blonde: The Musical” starting Monday (if you don’t already have season tickets).  Or you can take advantage of today and tomorrow’s special sneak preview sale.  Click here and enter the sales password ELLE before tomorrow night at 10 p.m. and you can get your hands on tickets before they go on sale to the public in four days.
