Meet Western New York: Amy Chartrand
Amy Chartrand, Community Director for March of Dimes
Hometown: Cheektowaga
Where you lived when you moved away from Buffalo: Rochester, NY
Reason for moving back: I found a great position as a Community Director
with the March of Dimes. Not only does it give me a great opportunity to
give back to my community it’s allowed me to reconnect with my hometown
roots. Also as an avid believer in Buffalo’s “rebirth” moving back home
gives me a chance to support, enrich and grow Buffalo.
What you like about the summer time in Buffalo: Outdoor concerts, Bisons
games, strolling down Elmwood and don’t forget all the festivals.
What you like most about Buffalo weather: The variety! I’m one of the
few people who doesn’t mind the winters. But it never stays the same for
long.
What you like to do in Buffalo on your spare time: Enjoy the local music
scene. Sit at Spot on Elmwood and people watch; you’re bound to find me
there every weekend morning for my coffee fix!
Favorite Buffalo restaurant: Chef’s! It’s a classic, but it’s
fantastic-you can’t go wrong.
If applicable, your favorite Buffalo professional sports team: Go
Sabres!
Favorite Athlete from those teams? Jason Pominville
Lastly, why do you feel that Buffalo is such a unique city? While they
may be close in proximity Rochester and Buffalo are very different, and
unless you’ve lived there people think you’re crazy when you say it!
Moving back was an eye-opener to the feeling Buffalo gives you. Buffalo
truly is the City of Good Neighbors, there’s always someone willing to
help you out, or give you a kind smile or wave hello on the street. Also
I love the overwhelming sense of hometown pride people have here, it’s
really refreshing!
