Runner-Up Pierogi
Looks like we lost our claim as the Mrs. T’s Pierogi Capital, despite valiant efforts from Andy Golebiowski of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and his campaign. Binghamton won instead, which answers the question, “What Is Binghamton known for?” Now we know.
Senator Hillary R. Clinton even sent in a letter, according to this Buffalo News story about the recent announcement. Golebiowski had tried to steal votes away from Binghamton by starting a Pierogi Hotline, where voters could call-in their pledge to take the honor a second year in a row.
Fortunately for Binghamton, the city receives with its honor a $10,000 prize to be used in a community-building program. They chose, rather honorably and fittingly, the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, which feeds 2 million pounds of food to its citizens in need. Congratulations, Binghamton and good work with your efforts to eradicate hunger.
Buffalo still gets $1,000 as this year’s honorable mention, which will benefit the Corpus Christi nurse ministry program. And don’t forget, we won last year and put our $10,000 toward the city’s cultural tourism campaigns.
Better luck next year Buffalonians. Don’t forget, the only way the other guys win is if you let them. So keep on eating your pierogies and imagine new ways to get that prie back next year!
