This Man is Coming
It’s no shocker that here at Block Club we haven’t made any mention of today’s politicking on behalf of Senator John McCain at a private dinner party in the city and fundraising appearance at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, given our usual avoidance of all things (explicitly) political. We made a decision over a year ago when we started our magazine and subsequent Web site to not get our feet wet dirty in the politics game. We are all politically minded people here at BCM, all have our viewpoints and minds up made; but when we started publishing stories about the good things in WNY and the good people in WNY, somehow politics wasn’t at the top of our list. We’re not ignoring the importance of our civil liberties and right to vote (not by a long shot), but enough other people talk about that stuff; we just want to make you feel happy about something for a few minutes. There is enough that divides us, so let’s think about what unites us. Things like hot dogs, Loganberry, a pretty lake, some cool kids (as seen in our current issue of Block Club Magazine) and things like that.
So then I won’t mention that McCain’s scheduled appearances today have led local liberals to protest the Senator’s appearance at the Albright-Knox at 5:30 p.m. or that it is expected to bring in a record amount for a local political fundraiser, topping former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s visit last year. Nor will I repeat what is said in today’s newspaper article that the state’s big-time republicans know it’s a lost cause to attract votes in visits like today’s; it’s about raising funds where there are funds to be given, not votes where votes cannot be effectively be cast. You can read about it yourself here.
Read up for yourself if it’s something of personal interest to you. Show up this afternoon if you support him, show up across the street if you don’t, and show your true colors.
