Veteran’s Day Surprise
A dear family friend of mine moved to the Southwest this summer, taking with her an uncanny perspective on local people and customs. Margaret—Margie, as she’s known in our homes—taught school here and shared her love of language and expression with countless young people. I’m sorry to not have her within immediate reach of me, but she’s living her post-professional dream of a warmer climate and Southwest culture.
Readers might recognize Margie’s byline as a regular in the Everybody’s Column in The Buffalo News. She’s written about teaching our kids, parenting her kids and being a woman in Western New York. This week she writes her first post-move column, this time about an unexpected encounter with her new fellow natives. It’s heartwarming, personal, funny and fittingly patriotic this Veteran’s Day.
Read Margie’s column here, as posted on The Buffalo News’s Web site.
